California Democrats' Frivolous Lawsuit against Federal Administration Hurts Farmers

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) released the following statement after the Newsom Administration announced that it will sue the Federal Administration challenging biological opinions issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service. California has sued the Trump Administration more than 60 times since Trump has been elected to the White House.

“Californians just had one lawsuit victory with SB 27 and now another one emerges. Once again, California Democrats have elected to focus their attention on the Federal Administration instead of Californians. This lawsuit by Governor Newsom’s Administration is a direct attack on California’s hardworking farmers, farmworkers, and agribusinesses.  The biological opinions released in October could have resulted in more water available for agriculture which would have helped our farmers feed an estimated 10 billion people by 2050. California Democrats should be defending those who put food on America’s table, instead of continually assaulting their industry,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.

On October 21, 2019, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service released Biological Opinions on the Bureau of Reclamation’s newly proposed operations in the Central Valley Project. Combined with the State Water Project, the Central Valley Project plays a key role in the success of California’s economy and environment.
